Danny Healy-Rae TD, this week, addressed the Dáil about the ‘Fair Deal’ proposal and questioned the clauses regarding the proposal.
He said, “100% of the farm must be assessed as well as the home, that’s wrong.”
The Independent TD pointed out, “The young person taking over the farm - if they get hurt it says that they must have been farming for three years and have to do so for another six years.”
“What happens if there are young children who can’t take over the farm and are not able to do that and the wife has no other choice but to rent out the farm?” he asked.
Healy-Rae was adamant that this is very wrong and ended his narrative by asking the Minister “Have you no regard for small farmers or rural Ireland where people are trying to survive?
Without waiting for an answer, he concluded with “This is very wrong, and for all the time that we’ve been waiting, is this the best that you can do?”
