Dan McCarthy is openly offering the premises of Kenmare Co-op Livestock Mart as a venue for a wedding.
The well-esteemed manager of Kenmare Mart experienced his light-bulb moment last week after his friend shared an article published by That’s Farming on his personal Facebook page.
Dan felt inspired by the marriage staged in a livestock mart in Leicestershire, with a keen desire to bring the trend across the waters to Irish soil. Dan was quick to notify That’s Farming of his generous offer.
“I said if you want a wedding here, no problem Kenmare Mart is happy to play host. It’s only a bit of craic really and sure you couldn’t get any better. It would be romantic for sure!” Dan told Catherina of That’s Farming.
Dan is reassured that this less than conventional venue could prove to be a popular hit and the staff of Kenmare Mart are just waiting for a couple to approach them.
“The place can be done up anyway that they want. They can even have the service in the ring. If they want, the priest can go up on the rostrum. We can have a full feast and music, the whole job.” Dan laughed.
Livestock Marts- Untapped potential
Dan is of the belief that livestock marts have untapped potential when it comes to the blossoming of romance and he humorously admits that they could possibly become “the unofficial dating agency of rural Ireland” in the not-so-distant future.
“The mart is the ideal place to view your farmer because they all turn up here. You can find out how many cattle or sheep they are selling if the stock are quality and how many acres they have. The perfect opportunity.” Dan said.
“Also, a farmer’s true character is revealed around the ring and I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing!” Dan laughed.
“This is most certainly going to take off! Here in Kenmare, we attendees aged from 20-90 years. It is the place to be.” Dan said.
Any couple that wish to give a new meaning to the ‘ring’ can contact Kenmare Mart office directly.
Dan has offered Kenmare Mart as a free venue for the first wedding, with reasonably-priced rates to be negotiated thereafter! (It is a mart after all!)
Dan has also promised Catherina of That’s Farming that she bring the full exclusive!
