The latest figures from the CSO (Central Statistics Office) shows that milk production on Irish dairy farms for the month of August has witnessed a 11.2% jump, in comparison to August 2016 data.
The figures shows that the intake of cow’s milk by creameries and pasteurises was estimated to be 777.7 million litres in August 2017.
This is in comparison to the domestic milk intake for August 2016 which totalled to 699.3 million litres.
The fat content for the domestic milk in August was 4.08%, while the protein content was 3.54%.
In January-August 2016, domestic milk intake was 5,054.6 million litres and increased by 8.1% to 5,461.6 million litres in the same time-period in 2017.
Butter production soared to 23,500 tonnes, representing a 16.0% increase from August 2016, the CSO statistical release from 29th September 2017 revealed.
In July, butter production hit 23,900 tonnes.
The total milk sold for human consumption increased by 0.4% to 45.2 million litres.
