Cows have constantly been milking well since calving started with no let-up. Protein is starting to slip; however, as cows are not consuming grass.
Cows have not been let out to grass yet due to the unsettled weather conditions. We normally aim for Patrick's day to have them out. Lots of grass about so cows will be let out ASAP once conditions allow.
Calving has been ticking away still with no major problems. Angus and Hereford calves are arriving from now on. No calves were sold yet; we will sell about 20 of the late ones this year and keep the rest.
We are also turning out attention to cow roadway maintenance and have been cleaning off some of the rough ones and re-surfacing them. We’ve also started to repair fences before cows are turned out.
We are hoping to have cows out by next weekend, weather dependent. Slurry tanks are also filling fast now again so we will follow the cows with slurry. We might also let some weanlings out on the outside block to start grazing that.
