Group to be set up to combat labour shortage in dairy sector
It’s a positive move for an industry that’s crying out for more workers.
The dairy industry the supposed success story of Irish agriculture at the moment is facing down the barrel of a gun when it comes to labour.
Industry representative and Teagasc have agreed to establish a stakeholder group to target the farm labour shortage.
Its been reported that 6000 extra dairy workers will be needed in the next 10 years.
The new group will be chaired by former Department of Agriculture secretary general Tom Moran.
