Dairy calf registrations rise by over 48,000 in 2020

According to statistics from the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), the number of calves registered in 2020 has seen an increase of 64,566 from the same stage last year.

The biggest increase recorded has been in the number of dairy calves registered last week, rising by 48,774, from 1,180,538 to 1,229,312.

Pedigree registrations:

  • Week 26 of 2020 – 1,718;
  • Week 26 of 2019 – 2,598;
  • Total registered in 2020 – 68.380;
  • Total registered at same stage in 2019 – 70,054.

Registrations using animal events (AE) book:

  • Week 26 of 2020 – 41,793;
  • Week 26 of 2019 – 58,000;
  • Total registered in 2020 – 1,117,335;
  • Total registered at same stage in 2019 – 1,098,677.

Total beef births:

  • Week 26 of 2020 – 33,806;
  • Week 26 of 2019 – 50,457;
  • Total registered in 2020 – 420,475;
  • Total registered at same stage in 2019 – 404,683.

Total dairy births:

  • Week 26 of 2020 – 37,010;
  • Week 26 of 2019 – 45,168;
  • Total registered in 2020 – 1,229,312;
  • Total registered at same stage in 2019 – 1,180,538.

Total calf births registered:

  • Week 26 of 2020 – 70,815;
  • Week 26 of 2019 – 95,625;
  • Total registered in 2020 – 1,649,787;
  • Total registered at same stage in 2019 – 1,585,221.
