Dunmasc Genetics, in association with Macra Skillnet, are to host a Bovine Hoof Trimming, lameness and mobility workshop this coming Tuesday March 5th.
The event will be held at the Dunmasc Genetics base near Portlaoise, Co. Laois, kicking off at 10am on the day. The course will be run over the course of one day and attendees will learn how to practically and safely perform preventative hoof trimming.
They will also learn how to apply shoes and blocks as well as learning how to identify common lameness conditions and the different treatments used. Course attendees will also be introduced to the concept of mobility/locomotion scoring. This will delivered through both theory and a practical ‘Hands-on’ session.
The course will be taught by a qualified vet and hoof trimmer. Tickets for Macra Skillnet members comes at a price of €110 each, with a €25 extra charge for non-members. The training is partially funded by Macra Agriculture Skillnet and tickets can be purchased here.
For those who complete phase one of the Bovine Hoof Trimming, Lameness & Mobility workshop, the second phase has been organised for April 1st and 2nd. You can read all about that event here.
The second phase offers a similar learning experience to phase one and is best suited for individuals looking to pursue a career in hoof trimming, farmers looking to upskill and hoof trimmers looking to expand their knowledge.
