A cow had a lucky escape this morning, July 31st, as it was dramatically rescued by Lough Ree RNLI this morning.
The dramatic rescue attempt took place this morning at approximately 11am, with the cow discovered up to its shoulders in muck. The cow was discovered along the river banks of the Shannon, near Athlone in Co. Westmeath.
Attempts were made by the lifeboat crew to free the cow using a rope, though this was a fruitless escapade. The cow has eventually rescued thanks to the help of some local farmers, who pulled her out with a tractor, by putting a bridle around her neck.
Following a traumatic morning, the cow was eventually reunited with its herd, safe and sound.
