Covid-19: Phone and online bidding at pedigree sales

Two of Ireland’s largest cattle breed societies have confirmed that their premier show and sales will go ahead this weekend, as planned.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Irish Charolais Cattle Society, said: “The premier Charolais show and sale will take place this Saturday (March 14th) in Elphin Mart as planned. “

“However, following guidelines released earlier today by the relevant authorities, we ask that anyone not selling or not interested in buying, please do not attend.”

“The best possible precautionary measures will be taken on the day for the safety of all those attending.”
“Over-the-phone bidding will be available for anyone who does not wish to attend the sale and is interested in purchasing a bull or heifer.”

Anyone who wishes to avail of this option must contact Elphin Mart Office on 071 9635061 prior to the. “We ask everyone for their co-operation in advance.” the statement concluded.

Limousin society

Meanwhile, the Irish Limousin Cattle Society’s premier show and sale in Roscrea will be staged on Sunday (March 15th) and Monday (March 16th), as scheduled.

In a statement, a society spokesperson said: “In the interests of public safety and to comply with the current directives, the mart staff will be restricting the attendance at both the show and sale ring to 100.”

“Due to this directive, we are requesting that only sellers and intending buyers attend the show and sale.”

“To facilitate viewing at home we intend to have the show and sale transmitted live on Sunday evening and Monday.”

“There will also be a facility for purchasers who cannot attend to participate through online bidding. We thank you for your cooperation in these difficult times.” the statement concluded.
