Gardaí from Ballymote, Co. Sligo stopped a jeep on the N17 yesterday (Tuesday, December 10th) to speak to the driver in relation to a faulty headlight.
Utilising the newly issued mobility devices, Gardaí discovered that the vehicle had not been taxed since it was purchased by the owner, in February 2019.
A spokesperson explained that device also allowed Gardaí to confirm that the vehicle did not have a valid certificate of roadworthiness.
“On further examination, it was discovered that the front two tyres were well below the legal thread depth.”
As a result, this vehicle was seized, and the driver now faces a number of Fixed Charge Penalty Notices in addition to a court appearance.
“The new #MobilityApp allows Gardaí to have access to a range of information at the roadside which was previously only available via the Garda Station.”
“Rollout is continuing over the coming weeks.” the statement concluded.
