The FBD/Macra Capers National title is set to stay in Cork for another year, after Clonakilty Macra, Carbery were crowned All Ireland Champions. The team from Clonakilty landed the title at last Saturday’s finals in the WIT Arena, Waterford, February 2nd.
Macra’s FBD Capers is a competition designed for clubs wishing to gain experience in producing and performing a light entertainment variety show. Performances can range from singing and dancing to comedy and drama.
The team from Clonakilty faced stiff competition on the night from the team of Mountmellick Macra in Laois, who came in second place. In third position was Enfield Macra from Co. Meath. This means the title is now heading back to Cork for another year, after Awbeg Macra, Avondhu won last year.
National President of Macra, James Healy, spoke of the great night’s entertainment in Waterford and thanked everyone for their support of the competition.
“This was a fantastic night’s entertainment and a fitting way to begin our 75th anniversary celebrations which will continue throughout the year. Congratulations to our six finalists for the brilliant entertainment they provided on the night and thank you to FBD Insurance for their continued support of one of Macra’s most prestigious competitions.” He said.
“Thank you to Waterford Macra for hosting, our presiding officer, adjudicators, time keepers and everyone who came along to support on the night.” James Healy concluded.
The individual awards on the night went to-
Best Male: Adam Burke, Enfield. Best Female: Christine Meehan, Causeway.
