There will be a grooming demonstration for young members and a pedigree animal nutritionist speaker will also be in attendance, according to a spokesperson.
The workshop will take place midway through the sale approximately 2.00 pm - 3.00 pm; the auctioneer will announce when the workshop is beginning.
“It will be a great chance to meet and chat with other young members, so if you are around on the day please do attend. Don’t be afraid to bring a friend also!” The spokesperson told That’s Farming.
“A new focus”
The Irish Charolais Cattle Society (ICCS) launched a Young Members Association, aimed at candidates aged between 12-22 years with an interest in Charolais cattle.
The objective of the YMA is to be as “educational and enjoyable as possible” for its members and to assist with the development of youth involvement within the Charolais Breed.
Speaking to That’s Farming, a ICCS spokesperson said:
“We aim to develop stock judging and showmanship skills, grooming skills, as well as to introduce other young people with the same interests.”
“It was felt that a new focus was needed on the youth development within the Charolais breed, so this is the reasoning behind the founding of this YMA.”
The ICCS YMA aims to improve Charolais breeding knowledge and plan to hold workshops/farm visits along with stock judging competitions throughout the year.
“The more interest there is and the more members we can attract to join our association will ultimately decide how far we can develop this YMA, but the signs of interest have been quite high at the moment so hopefully this will continue.” The spokesperson added.
