Following a flurry of bids, the hammer hit at €14,500 for 13-month-old Roughan Madilin at the first Elite Charolais Heifer show and sale, hosted in Tullamore Mart on Saturday.
Pat Mc Clean from County Donegal, offered Madilin, a Roughan Dix De Coe daughter, for sale, who was the winner of the Donegal Charolais Club Calf Championship back in August.
Following hot on the heels of Madilin, at €8,000 14-month-old, Liscally My Fair Lady 6 ET from Lewis and Jon Regan, Tawley, Castlegal, Co. Leitrim sold. The Balmyle Vagabond daughter also enjoyed an eventful show season, picking up silverware around the west of Ireland all year. ( Pictured below!)
Hitting the €6,500 mark was the Reserve Junior Champion, Goldstar Mirabelle, October 2016 born daughter of Texan gie, from the herd of Martin Ryan and family, Thurles, Co. Tipperary. ( Pictured below)
Junior Champion, 17-month-old Crossane4 Milly, a daughter of Liscally Eti exhibited by the Mc Govern brothers from Fivemilebourne, Co. Sligo left the ring unsold at €6,200.
John Fluery, Co. Offaly took home €6,000 for Drumcullen Lily, a March 2015 born daughter of Vexour Granville, who sold in-calf to the easy calving Dovea AI sire, Bivouac.
Hailing from Streamstown, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath the Geoghegan family’s first offering setting the bar high, totting up €5,400 was Lisnagre Lovely Lady ET, a 23-month-old daughter of Prime Roberto.
Co. Clare’s Michael Quinn’s first offering went under the hammer at €5,000. Clenagh Lady 2 ET, a daughter of Dromiskin Viceroy and Clenagh Tranquil, sold in-calf to the NCBC sire, Cavelands Fenian.
The Mc Govern brothers, Fivemilebourne, Co. Sligo secured €4,800 and €3,600, for their offerings after their Crossane4 Milly left the ring unsold earlier in the day.
A buoyant trade
The hammer fell at €4,800 for 17-month-old Alwent Goldbar daughter, Crossane4 Mia.
€4,700 was the price of Gallaway Malissa, a daughter of the UK sire, Thrunton Flyingscotsman, the Reserve Senior Champion from the herd of Leitrim-based breeder Michael Kiernan.
Leitrim’s Lewis and Ron Regan also secured €4,700 for Liscally Liscally 3 ET, an October 2015 born daughter of Liscally Eti, who sold in-calf to the high performance sire, Blelack Digger.
The success of Tipperary-based Ryan family did not halt following successful proceedings earlier.
At €4,350 Virtuose daughter, Goldstar Melodie exchanged hands, while €3,450 was the price of Lisnagre Elite daughter, Goldstar Melanie.
The Geoghegan family returned to offer Lisnagre Lovely Lady ET’s full sister, Tullamore Lisnagre Longford Lady ET, securing €4,300, while two-year-old Lisnagre Lavender ET found a new home at €3,200.
The Geoghegan’s next two up were Clenagh Lexie and Clenagh Libby who sold for the same sum of €4,000 each. Lexie, who is a daughter of Cottage Devon, sold in-calf to the 2016 Christmas Cracker Champion, Clenagh Lyle. Libby, who is a daughter of Elgin Fergal, also sold in calf to Clenagh Lyle.
Offaly’s John Fluery returned and continued to leave a powerful mark on the day and fetched €4,000 for Drumcullen Mimosa, a 15-month-old daughter of the herd's former stock bull, Camber Jameson.
At €3,600 was the March 2015 born daughter of Nippur, Crossane Lily, who sold in-calf to NCBC sire, Cavelands Fenian.
Donegal’s Pat McClean returned to offer Roughan Linda, a daughter of Roughan Galant and a Roughan Dix De Coe daughter Roughan Louise 4 passed through the week, fetching the same figure of €3,500.
At €3,150 was Liscally My Fair Lady 2 ET, a full sister to the €8,000, My Fair Lady 6 ET sold.
The Geoghegan family drew their sale proceedings to a close with their last lot Lisnagre Mona, daughter of the home bred, Lisnagre Hansome exchanged hands for €2,400.
Other notable prices on the day included:

- €4,000 for Fieldview Limelight by Inverlochy Ferdie exhibited by David Erskine
- €3,600 for Luddenmore Miss Veronica by Maerdy Sinndar exhibited by Michael Sheahan
- €3,600 for Grangwood My Lady by Grangwood Jack exhibited by Jerry O' Keeffe
The sale witnessed a 82% clearance rate, with heifers selling to an average price of €3,798.
