How many cattle were processed in the ROI last week?

Last week’s national beef kill stood at 34,660 cattle, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database.

The inclusion of last week’s figures brings the national cumulative beef kill to 97,800, in comparison to 100,288 cattle during the corresponding period last year.

Breakdown:

  • Young bulls: 4,901;
  • Bulls: 422;
  • Steers: 11,098;
  • Cows: 6,639;
  • Heifers: 11,560.

Quotes

Factories are quoting a base of €3.60-€3.70/kg for steers and heifers this week.

Between €2.90-€3.40/kg is reportedly being paid for cull cows while some plants are quoting between €3.40-3.65/kg for young bulls.
