Investigations are now underway, after an overnight attack on a farm which saw a calf’s tongue cut from its mouth.
The incident occurred in Inisowen, Co. Donegal, with a local farmer discovering his one-month calf with it’s “tongue sliced out of its head”, as reported by highlandradio.com. Speaking to the Nine ‘till Noon Show, the farmer said they did not know how the tongue was removed, only that neither the calf or another animal were responsible.
“He didn’t bite it out and it doesn’t appear to have been bitten out by another animal,” the farmer said.
Upon discovering the calf, the farmer contacted Gardaí and a local vet and was then informed by the vet that the injuries were likely the result of a deliberate act, inflicted with a sharp blade. The attack occurred at some stage on Tuesday night, December 8th. The calf survived the attack but will struggle to eat and drink without its much-needed tongue.
Investigations are now underway into the incident by Donegal Gardaí. Anyone with any information on the attack are urged to contact them.
“You have to ask what kind of sick individual would do this” said the farmer.
