The death has occurred of Bro Patrick Coye who was a former teacher and principal at Salesian Agricultural College, Pallaskenry.
The Galway native attended the college in 1951 before joining the Salesians in 1958 and working in the agricultural college from 1960 to 1962.
He studied engineering in London and returned to Pallaskenry in 1966; he created an engineering department in the college.
He was principal from 1973 to 1975 and again from 1983 to 1995.
In a statement, Salesian Agricultural College Pallaskenry said: “He gave his time generously to the travelling community, past pupils and youth activities.”
“Bro. Pat will always be remembered as a friendly, welcoming and kind person.”
“In later life, illness took hold of him and he needed the care of Abbot Close Nursing Home in Askeaton.”
“Even though his illness brought great challenges, Bro. Pat kept his dignity, graciousness and goodness.”
“Lord, reward Bro. Pat for the wonderful humanity he always shared with the people in his life. May he rest in peace.”
Bro Pat’s remains will repose at the Salesian Community in Pallaskenry from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 2nd and burial will take place on Thursday, October 3rd in the Community Cemetery following 11 am mass in the college chapel.
