A special meeting of the cabinet will occur this morning (Monday) to provide an update on the state of the Brexit negotiations.
The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste will host the special meeting, according to RTE News.
Talks on the issue of the border on the island of Ireland continued into the weekend, with correspondence between London and Dublin.
Simon Coveney, the newly appointed Tánaiste spoke on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland and said that “hopefully we’ll find a way forward toward.”
“Our fear, of course, is that it would have an unintended consequence because people can’t find a way of resolving that issue in the future and we can’t allow and we won’t allow.”
According to RTE, sources in Brussels confirmed that while progress has been made, a deal is not yet in place, as indicated by a government spokesman.
Theresa May will travel to Brussels today to move on to the next phase of negotiations, to seek EU support.
