A livestock lorry carrying forty-two bulls overturned in Co. Fermanagh earlier today, with two bulls killed in the process.
The incident occurred earlier this morning, January 11th, at approximately 6:30am on the Cavan Road, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh. The articulated lorry in question was carrying a consignment of 42 bulls and overturned, trapping the animals in the vehicle.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service West crew (NIFRS) were called to the scene alongside a large Animal rescue team and officers from Portadown and Enniskillen to help rescue the trapped animals. On arrival, the NIFRS crew found that the driver had rescued himself from the truck and was treated by ambulance workers. He suffered no major injuries.
The NIFRS West crew were then assisted by local vet crews in their bid to rescue the trapped animals and were successful in rescuing all but two bulls safely. The two bulls in question had already died upon impact during the accident.
