Bóthar plans to send a plane of animals and supplies to Rwanda this autumn as part of the commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the genocide.
37 Irish dairy cows, 100 Irish dairy goats, 200 Irish pigs, 5,000 day-old Irish chicks, 10,000 AI straws, 3 Irish pedigree bulls and 100 water filtration systems will be on the memorial ark.
The international charity provides the gift of livestock as a means of long-term development aid; it enables families and communities to overcome hunger and poverty in a sustainable way.
“Every donation covers the cost of the animal itself, the necessary training required by the recipient prior to receiving the animal, full veterinary support for three years after receiving the animal, and the added bonus of animal therapy for families who have been through so much.”
“We need your help to make this a reality and to help us support the people of Rwanda.” a spokesperson explained.
In 1994, 1 million Rwandans were slaughtered in three months in the fastest killing spree of all time, the spokesperson explained.
“The wounds from the genocide are still healing. Help us to help them.”
“Irish dairy cows have enabled families to remain in their villages surrounded by people they love, rather than forcing them into unsavoury jobs in the larger urban areas.”
Text – COW – to 5033 to donate €4 – a minimum of €3.60 will go towards the campaign; the service provider is LikeCharity.
