The newly formed Irish Blue Texel Society will host its inaugural annual sale at Tullamore Mart on Friday, August 9th.
Sheep will be available to view from 15.00 onwards; the show will commence at 4 pm and the sale will follow at 7 pm.
54 entries carrying Irish, British, Dutch and Belgian bloodlines will go under the hammer; 10 shearling rams, 2 shearling ewes 23 ram lambs and 19 ewe lambs from 13 different flocks are catalogued for the sale.
Speaking to That’s Farming, a spokesperson for the Irish Blue Texel Society – said: “The breed has gained popularity over the past 5 years due to its ease of lambing, good growth rates and exceptional carcase grade and kill out % (up to 60%).”
“The breed is also very prolific with lambing percentages around the 200% mark in pure flocks.” the spokesperson added.
