New stats released at the end of last week have shown that the largest importers of EU beef in the world remains China and the US.
The US imported, in the years first three months, just below 300,000 tonnes. While China and Hong Kong remained the top of the importing chain with a whopping 350,000 tonnes imported in the same three month period.
This is compared to the EU itself, which imported slightly more than 50,000tonnes in the same time period.
Large percentages of all beef and veal products imported into the EU originate from South America (Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina). These three countries counted for almost 75% of product imported into the EU last year.
Hong Kong remains the largest market for EU veal and Beef, with Israel and Lebanon following closely behind. Hong Kong imports counted for almost 20,550 tonnes.
The latest figures show us that the US remains 100,000tonnes ahead of its nearest rival, Australia, for being the largest exporter of beef products this year.
These results represent a shift in the markets, following last year’s results where the US exported less than Australia.
