Enterprise: Pedigree Charolais herd with a number of commercial breeding females with 60% Shorthorn blood and some Charolais and Belgian-Blue influence. 60% of progeny are finished on-farm.
25 Hereford calves were weaned and dosed this week; they were moved to the out-farm where they will be fed grass from now on.
Dung was spread on ground that was sprayed; it will be reseeded this weekend.
We purchased 35 calves – 28 Friesian bulls, 5 Charolais bulls and a further two Charolais heifer calves; these are being collected tomorrow morning (Saturday).
More of our suckler-bred calves were de-horned and the cows were dosed.
We closed off some more fields for silage; a bulk spreader was used to spread fertiliser.
We are still fixing up fences around the farm and are replacing stakes that have been broken since animals were turned out.
We cut down trees and branches along all the silage fields to prevent beacons and mirrors from getting broken this season.
