Name: Michael Danagher
Location: Errill, Co. Laois
Enterprise: Pedigree Charolais herd with a number of commercial breeding females with 60% Shorthorn blood and some Charolais and Belgian-Blue influence. 60% of progeny are finished on-farm.
Our herd is currently locked up because of TB outbreaks on neighbouring farmers. We will have to hold onto some stock for longer than planned until we test twice over the next four months.
If we go clear, the stock we planned to sell in a few weeks’ time, will remain on-farm for months instead.
We scanned a number of our early-calvers - 9 in total and they are all in-calve.
We are drawing turf home at the moment also while the weather is good and hope to have this completed by tomorrow (Saturday).
We topped some more paddocks and let them up for silage as the bullocks have all been moved to the out-farm.
We sprayed off the weeds around the yard for the second time and along the fences in the fields; we spread fertiliser on reseeded ground.
