We purchased another batch of bull weanlings - 14-16-week-old Herefords – this week. We treated them for coccidiosis and blackleg on arrival as a precautionary measure.
We separated our bullocks – the heaviest of which will be fed extra concentrates as they will be sold towards the end of August.
They are all Herefords and weigh 420kg-450kg approximately at the moment; the lighter batch will be kept until November/December.
We have another two cows – a Simmental and a Limousin - that didn't go back in-calve that are going to be culled; they were Autumn-2018-calving cows and were here for three and five seasons.
We dehorned the last of the calves; as they are all grazing a lot more, we have removed concentrates from their diet.
We spread slurry and fertiliser over the weekend and will be spreading more at the weekend – weather permitting.
We hope to dose our Friesian bullocks – averaging between 400-430kgs - at the weekend and move them to new grass. They are being sold in October so we will be increasing their intake of concentrates as a result.
We purchased new mineral buckets for all the stock and Hi-Mag licks for the cows; these will be introduced to the pastures over the weekend.
