Another busy week on the farm and even though the weather wasn’t great, we took a further 10-acres for silage – a decision that was made following a farm walk.
The last of the slurry was spread on these paddocks at 2,500 gallons to the acre; this will be followed by half-a-bag of Sweetgrass/acre next week.
More paddocks have been earmarked to be taken out and this will be completed next week – I hope!
Hereford-cross-British Friesian calves that were purchased in May were delivered on Thursday; they are currently grazing the after-grass from the first cut.
They will also receive a kg of a high protein nut and half-a-kg of soya bean along with rock salt as a mineral source; these must be weighed and dosed.
If the weather picks up, we will be cutting the hay as soon as possible. On the contracting side, things are in full swing at the moment with the bulk of the first cut nearly finished and a lot of the slurry out.
