Factories are paying a base price of €3.60-€3.65/kg for steers this week, while heifers are ranging from €3.60-€3.70/kg.
It has been reported that some plants are sealing deals at slightly higher prices of 5-10c/kg.
€2.80/kg is on the table for P grade cull cows, while between €3.20-€3.30/kg is being offered for R grades.
In terms of young R/U grade bulls, some plants are quoting between €3.60-€3.70/kg.
Last week’s beef kill
The national beef kill rose to 28,932 (including 56 calves) during the week commencing May 18th, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database. The kill during the corresponding period last year stood at 34,336 cattle including 44 calves.

- Bulls: 625;
- Steers: 10,281;
- Cows: 6,840;
- Heifers: 8,641;
- Veal: 56.
