Beef Trade: No movement in price

For the most part, factory quotes are remaining steady with the base price for steers hovering around €3.60/kg with between €3.60-€3.65/kg on the table for heifers.

Between €2.90-€3.35/kg is being quoted across plants for cull cows with €3.40-€3.60/kg reportedly available for R and U grade-type young bulls.

Throughput

The national beef kill for the week commencing September 7th stood at 34,832 head (includes 30 calves), according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database.

Breakdown:

  • Young bulls: 1,208;
  • Bulls: 686;
  • Steers: 17,104;
  • Cows: 6,952;
  • Heifers: 8,852.

Over 30,500 head more

The cumulative beef kill for the year-to-date now stands at 1,254,613 head, in comparison to 1,224,059 head slaughtered during the same period last year.

The beef kill is running 30,554 head higher than this time last year, with 55,173 fewer young bulls slaughtered this year, 2,785 fewer bulls, with 61,560 more steers, 1,907 more cull cows and 10, 566 more heifers.
