Beef Trade: 5c-10c/kg rise this week

Beef prices have risen once again this week, with an additional 5-10c/kg available in most plants.

The base price for heifers now stands at €3.70-€3.80/kg, while between €3.70-€3.75/kg is on the table for steers.

In terms of cull cows, €2.80-€2.90/kg is being quoted for P grades this week, with €3.00-€3.10/kg available for Os and €3.20-€3.30/kg for Rs.

€3.70-€3.80/kg is being quoted for young bulls in a limited number of plants.

National beef kill

The national beef kill fell to 35,758 head (including 27 calves) during the week commencing July 6th, according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database.

This represented a decline of 1,395 head from the previous week when 37,153 cattle (including 56 calves) were presented for slaughter.

Last week’s kill:

  • Young bulls: 2,326;
  • Bulls: 898;
  • Steers: 13,546;
  • Cows: 9,524;
  • Heifers: 9,437;
  • Calves: 27.

Corresponding week last year:

  • Young bulls: 4,400;
  • Bulls: 662;
  • Steers: 11,768;
  • Cows: 8,231;
  • Heifers: 9,538;
  • Calves: 48.
