Talks between representatives from various farm organisations, Meat Industry Ireland, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and other stakeholders are set to resume this morning (Monday, August 19th).
The 70-day QA single farm residency, 30-month requirements under the Quality Payment Scheme (QPS) and the four-movement rule will be discussed.
Three items were highlighted for resolution in the conclusions and next steps document circulated after the beef stakeholder meeting on August 12th; agreement in principle has been reached on two of the three issues.
Unanimous agreement from producer stakeholders that animals should be weighed prior to slaughter.
MII has committed to providing this lairage weighing service on request, at a nominal charge.
Introduction timelines will be decided locally based on individual member company operational and logistical considerations.
Where agreement is finalised between the processor and individual supplier (farmers) on the terms of sale, this can be confirmed in writing, where requested.
The exact mechanism will be decided by individual processors.
