A member of Beef Plan’s national negotiating team has confirmed that factories have made a number of commitments following Monday’s meeting of beef stakeholders.
In summary, the following was agreed in principle;
- Factories will weigh cattle live so the farmer can see kill out percentage on all animals;
- Factories will give written quotes on request, stressing “no more pushing kill dates out once deal is done”.
Three items were highlighted for resolution in the conclusions and next steps document circulated after the beef stakeholder meeting on August 12th; agreement in principle has been reached on two of the three issues.
Unanimous agreement from producer stakeholders that animals should be weighed prior to slaughter.
MII has committed to providing this lairage weighing service on request, at a nominal charge.
Introduction timelines will be decided locally based on individual member company operational and logistical considerations.
Where agreement is finalised between the processor and individual supplier (farmers) on the terms of sale, this can be confirmed in writing, where requested.
The exact mechanism will be decided by individual processors.
Talks will resume on Monday (August 19th), with a view to discussing specifications and presenting data committed in the document to be provided by Friday, August 16th.
