Beef kill decreasing week-by-week

The number of cattle slaughtered in Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine-approved beef plants continues to decline weekly.

The beef kill stood at 25,225 (including calves) for the week commencing Monday, April 13th, bringing the cumulative figure to 562,164, according to the DAFM’s database.

31,580 cattle (including 28 calves) were presented for slaughter during the corresponding period last year.

Breakdown:

  • Young bulls: 1,968;
  • Bulls: 735;
  • Steers: 9,917;
  • Cows: 4,403;
  • Heifers: 7,823;
  • Veal: 739.

Previous weeks:

  • Week commencing April 6th – 27,124 (including 418 calves);
  • Week commencing March 30th – 30,731 (including 1427);
  • Week commencing March 23rd – 35,607 (including 2,834 calves);
  • Week commencing March 16th – 37,898 (including 3,434 calves);
  • Week commencing March 9th – 38,957 (including 3,277 calves).
