Figures from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s database show that 37,056 cattle were processed during the week commencing Monday, September 23rd.

- Bulls: 480;
- Steers: 18,236;
- Cows; 4,405;
- Heifers: 11,642.
39,255 cattle were slaughtered during the same period last year, while 10,012 cattle were presented for slaughter during the week commencing September 16th, as reported by us here.
Factories are paying a base price of €3.45-€3.50/kg for steers, with between €3.50-€3.60/kg being quoted for heifers.
Young bulls are varying from €3.20-€3.55/kg, with some plants paying as low as €3.15/kg for O grades.
Beef processing plants are quoting from €2.80/kg for P grade cull cows with up to €3.15/kg reported for R grade culls.
