The leader of Ireland's Future, Gerry Loftus, has reacted with dismay to the outcome of talks on the beef crisis.
"I'd say we are coming out worse than we went in," Loftus said.
"No recognition of any sort for suckler-beef; this product is naturally-reared,environmentally-friendly with a low carbon footprint."
"A prime product and it doesn't get a mention is just beyond belief," Loftus stressed.
A proposal to seek PGI status for all grass-fed cattle is "a sell-out of the last remaining favourable protection of suckler cows".
"How some farming organisations could entertain a proposal like this is mind-boggling," he added.
"No price increase, no removal of any movement rules, nothing on the thirty-months, the reality is this has been a non-aven," he concluded.
