As part of the Beef Data and Genomics Programme, the ICBF are beginning the process of issuing genotype tissue disc tags, ahead of the Autumn round of genomic evaluations.
The body has compiled a list of animals selected for genotyping; however, programme participants have until Sunday, February 11th, 2018 to select alternative cattle for sampling using a facility through their ICBF’s account.
ICBF has stressed that genotype tissue tags will issue for these animals except; where animals have moved out of the herd/died before tags are printed; where higher priority animals enter the herd before tags are printed and where the farmer selects alternative animals via the ICBF website.
One major change has been made to this round of genotyping and that is that the selection criteria for pedigree herds has changed; females will now be selected ahead of pedigree males, which will that pedigree herds have enough females genotyped by 31st October 2018.
Genotyping tags will be dispatched to farms from the last week of March and ICBF has stressed that the objective is to issue as many tags as possible ahead of the turn-out season.
Shall you wish to selective alternative animals ahead of Sunday’s deadline, see the help-sheet here.
