Beef Plan’s David Maguire has accepted an invitation from Peadar Tóibín TD to discuss the contents of a draft bill which will look to “ban below-cost selling” in the beef sector.
This invitation has also been extended to all TDs to consider and “scrutinise the bill in detail” and to also hear first-hand from the Beef Plan on its significance to them, their farmers and stakeholders nationwide supported by the beef sector.
“Any developments must be focussed on the needs of the farmers and with their voices in mind.” Beef Plan outlined in a statement.
The meeting has been scheduled to take place in Leinster House on Thursday, September 26th and will be hosted by Peadar Tóibín TD.
Beef Plan said it has secured “considerable support” from many public representatives and are “extremely hopeful” of this Bill getting the support it requires from the Government and all associated parties to ensure passage of legislation through Dáil Eireann.
“Beef Plan is ready and willing to engage with all TDs from all parties to secure their support on Thursday.”
“It is important that the government listen to the overwhelming and ongoing concerns from beef farmers throughout the country.”
“It is clear that there must be immediate changes if the meat industry in Ireland is to be sustainable.” Beef Plan concluded.
