Balla Mart was a hive of activity with a jam-packed ringside on Friday night(17th November) as the highly anticipated 32 in-calf heifers from the herd of Walter Brennan went under the hammer.
Two leading ladies shared the same price tag of €3,050, following a flurry of bids at the 10th-anniversary in-calf heifer sale. The first, a halter-trained Simmental-Cross heifer( pictured above) sold carrying four stars and was served on 30th March 2017 to sexed semen female straw FTY. A pedigree-registered Charolais heifer served on 25th March to AI Charolais bull Fiston followed in hot pursuit later on in the night.
€3,000 secured a four-star haltered heifer served to pedigree Limousin stockbull on 3Rd May.
Also fetching the same golden figure was a five-star halter-trained heifer, served on 16th March to sexed female straw EBY.
€3,000 acquired a roan-coloured Limousin type heifer, served on 1st April to sexed female straw EBY.
A four-star CHX heifer served on 5th June to pedigree Limousin stockbull sold for €2,250.
€2,150 secured a Charolais-cross heifer served to pedigree Limousin stockbull on 1st May.
A Limousin-Cross Simmental heifer served on 25th March to EBY was acquired for €2,050.
The same price tag of €1,950 was shared by a four-star Limousin-Cross served on 25th April to EBY and a four-star Limousin-Cross heifer served to AI Limousin on 4th April.
The first in-calf heifer into the ring on the night, a four-star Charolais-cross served on 22nd March to AI LM Zag totted up €1,940.
Next into the ring, at €1,900 was a four-star Limousin heifer, served to KJB on 2nd April. The same money secured a Limousin-cross heifer served to KJB on 20th March.
A Belgian-Blue heifer served on 2nd May to pedigree Limousin stockbull sold for €1,800.
A four-star Charolais-Cross heifer served 10th June to pedigree Limousin stockbull found new soil for €1,850.
The hammer hit at €1,750 for a Limousin heifer served on 23rd March AI Limousin bull ZAG.
The last heifer into the ring on the night, a Charolais-Cross made €1,650 and sold served to a pedigree Limousin stockbull on 15th July.
€1,550 was the price of a Charolais-cross heifer served on 1st April to EBY.
Prices ranged from €1,550- €3,050. The sale gathered a large audience, with just two heifers leaving the ring unsold, reporting a 94% clearance rate on the night. Auctioneering duties were left in the capable hands of Mr. Raymond Clarke, livestock auctioneer with Balla Mart.
