Balla Mart's cattle sale on Saturday (November 10th), attracted a smaller entry than previous weeks.
Suckler entries including in-calve breeding females and suckler pairings met with increased demand, with more farmer customers present.
"Sales are getting smaller and it was good for the time of year. Anything nice and especially the heavier 400-500kg Charolais types were dear but plainer types are failing." A spokesperson for Balla Mart said.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €1.83/kg - a 350kg CHX - born in April-2017 - €910 or €2.60/kg, while those 400kg-500kg averaged €2.13/kg - a 490kg - LMX born in March-2017 - €1,235 or €2.52/kg.
Heavier bullocks 500kg plus averaged €2.06/kg - an April-2017-born - 580kg CH - €1.450 or €870 euro over the kg or €2.50/kg.
Heifers up to 400 kg averaged €2.08/kg - a CHX heifer - born in April-2017 - 330kg - €1040 or €3.15/kg, while entries 400kg-500kg averaged €2.13/kg with the weight - a 470kg CHX heifer- born in March-2017 - €1,200 or 2.55/kg. Entries 500kg plus averaged €2.08/kg - a 690kg LMX heifer - €1,510 or €2.19/kg.

Cull Cows & Suckler Pairings
A special entry of in-calf heifers garnered strong farmer interest, with a top call of €2,200 recorded for an in-calf Simmental-cross heifer born in March-2016 and due to calf in January.
In the cull cow ring, the category topper came in the form of a 965kg CH cow born in January-2011; she was knocked down at t€1,670
The next sale will be held on Saturday (November 17th) with booking on Wednesday (November 14th) at 09:30 am for Bullocks & Heifers & 11:00am for cows.
