Claire and Aidan McManus commissioned Veronica Conlon to create a cake for their special day.
They stumbled across a quirky farmed-themed creation on social media and approached the owner of Veronica's Wedding Cakes.
The cake was originally designed by Daisy Chain Cakes in Co. Cork which was featured by this publication last July.
“I had designed some farm-themed wedding cakes before but not as detailed as this one.” The bespoke wedding cake designer told Catherina Cunnane – That’s Farming.
“I was very excited to do something out of the ordinary so I agreed to do something similar.”
The design featured cows, fences, milk churns, a dog, pairs of wellies, post and rail fencing, green fields and personalised ear tags.
“Everything on the cake is edible with the exception of the ear tags" She explained.
“I made the bride and groom cake topper from modeling paste a few weeks in advance of the wedding to give them time to dry.”
“It is in the region of 10 hours work; I made the little extras – cows and churns – a few days before the couple’s wedding.”
Cakes are baked, the fondant is coloured and the final touches are applied two days before a wedding.
“A novelty wedding cake is not everyone’s taste but when you have a passion for something like Claire and Aidan have for farming, then why not.”
“It is a lovely focal point in the wedding venue and adds a very personal to them both,” Veronica added.
Veronica posted images of the design on her Facebook page and she is “delighted with the positive response.”
“I received so many lovely comments – it makes my job all worthwhile.”
“Ireland has such a big farming community; I am sure I will be delivering a quirky farming wedding cake to another venue in the near future.”
Veronica Conlon turned her talent and passion into a thriving business.“I started making cakes for my family about 10 years ago and realised I had a flair for it.” She told Catherina Cunnane – That’s Farming.
She attended evening classes at a college in the locality and gained the confidence to establish her own enterprise.
Veronica has a workshop at her home which is located in close proximity to the village of Newtownbutler in Enniskillen, Co, Fermanagh.
“Here I work my magic by transforming basic ingredients into delicious work of arts.” She said.
Her main aim is to produce something delightful for every single one of her clients.“I am committed to producing stunning bespoke cakes perfect for any special occasion.” She concluded.
