The Virginia Show takes place tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd of August, at the Showgrounds, Main Street, Virginia Co. Cavan, which is the 77th annual event.

The event will take place near Lough Ramor, with over 3,000 exhibits, 500 classes and €50,000 in prizes up for grabs. The show will also host art competitions, a fashion show, arts and crafts, sheep shearing and much more. Last year saw in excess of 15,000 people make their way to the showgrounds for the event, with the event officially launched by IFA president Joe Healy.

Special guests on the day this year include An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD, Minister for Business, Enterprise & Innovation, Heather Humphreys TD, and the Vice-president of the European Parliament, Mairead McGuinness MEP.

The Livestock showing classes are among the most hotly anticipated of the whole show, with the Diageo Baileys Irish Champion Dairy Cow the main event.

The competition, in association with Glanbia, has a prize of €10,000 on offer for the champion cow on the day and kicks off at 3:30pm. The competition, which is the 35th one, was launched recently by the Minister of State for Food, Forestry and Horticulture, Andrew Doyle T.D. The top place of Overall Champion gets a €2,500 prize, while €1,000 is given to the Reserve Champion and €500 to the Honourable Mention. Last year saw Sam McCormick from Co.
