This cow is fresh after having her 20th calf and never has she needed any help before.

It is rare to see a cow kept on the one farm for an extended period, but this Limousin has been living in her current home for 20 years!

She is owned by Donie Kilmartin who hails from Erril, on the Laois/Tipperary border. The lady in question was born the 4th of January 1996 and was bought by Donie at 2 years old as a young heifer.

“I bought her 20 years ago...She is two months short of 22”, said Donie.

Donie and his family Milk 50 cows on their farm, with a further 25 sucklers also. He admits that they like to look after their cows, especially those who put in a good service like this one.

“Sometimes you just take to a cow and I just say you’ll never go to a factory”, he said.

Donie said he had another cow like her recently and such is his love for his herd, he saved her from the factory and let her live her days out on the small farm. To some a cow having her 20th calf might seem astonishing, but not Donie as his beloved cow has never had any health problems.

“She was lucky, she never had a lame foot...I never had to get a vet to her, she was never sick in her life. She was one of these lucky cows and I just said I’ll let you see out your time on the farm”, Donie added.

Not only is she a loyal servant to Donie and his farm, but she is also gentle in nature.

“She is 100%. She is the quietest cow you will ever meet. Just a nice cow”, he said.

She had a Limousin heifer and Donie said she has had calves from every and any breed.

“She’s had every breed. She had Limousin, Charolais, Simmental and Blond. She’s had them all”, he exclaims.

His beloved cow will now retire after taking care of her final ever calf, a Limousin heifer. She will now live out the rest of her days, enjoying the grass on offer and her final days. A lovely story about a lovely cow.
