The new year is here and with that we’ve got new farming scheme’s and grants to apply for.
Here are some of them:
Sheep Welfare Scheme
The much talked about €25 m sheep Welfare scheme comes online this year. Farmers will receive €10 per head of breeding ewe on their property depending on the average number of ewe’s held on their farms from 2014-2015.
In order to activate this payment farmers must first complete flock care actions to improve ewe health.
The controvesial scheme may reopen for 2017 as per some of the indications from the Department. It proved unpopular with many farmers last year.
Those lucky enough to have been admitted to the third round of GLAS will be eligible to compelte works on their farms in order to receive Glas Payments. GLAS was unpopular in 2016 with many farmers waiting months for their payments to be approved.
Family Farm Partnership Tax Credit
A €25,000 euro tax credit is to begin in 2017. The program allows fortwo people to enter into partnership with profit sharing with a view to transfering family farms to the younger member of the partnership after 10 years.
Low Cost Loans Scheme
The much talked about Low Cost loans scheme will open in 2017.
The program was annunced in the Budget and was seem as a way to help struggling farmers. The €150m scheme will provide loans at a lwo rate of 2.95%. No start date has yet been announced for the scheme.
The farm building scheme is to open in 2017. However no clear dates have yet been given.
Farmers will be able to avail of grant aid of 40% and young farmers grant aid of 60%
