Tom Barry is a tillage farmer with a background in biochemistry farming near Killavullen in north Cork.
His farm consists of 1000-acres with crops including winter wheat, barley, beans and rye along with some spring barley. He also runs a substantial grain drying and storage enterprise.
He has grown his business over the years and has looked at new and innovative ways to improve the output and returns from his tillage operation.
He has moved away from the conventional-diesel fuelled method of drying grain to a renewable biomass solution through the use of burning straw to power the grain dryer.
Avondhu Macra is hosting the 2019 Macra ‘Rally’; Tom Barry will play host to an open day on Saturday, October 26th - These tours require booking through the following link and will cost €25 (lunch included).
On the day of the visit, people will hear about how new technology has driven significant efficiency and productivity gains in the area of machinery output.
