What were calves making before mart closures?

There was a small entry of calves on offer at Kilmallock Mart on Monday (March 23rd), as a result of the ongoing health pandemic, according to a spokesperson. 

They noted that trade was “strong” for the 450 entries that went under the hammer. 

Calves: 

  • A 3-week-old Charolais bull – €320;
  • A 4-week-old Aberdeen Angus heifer – €285;
  • A 4-week-old Belgian Blue Bull – €270;
  • A Simmental bull – €250;
  • A 3-week-old Shorthorn bull – €250;
  • A Friesian heifer – €140;
  • 5 Jersey heifers – €62 each. 

Dromcollogher:

“Last week saw 177 calves sold at Dromcollogher. Despite Coronavirus restrictions, trade was good.” the spokesperson added. 

Prices: 

  • A 4-week-old Hereford bull – €270;
  • A 3-week-old Simmental bull – €260;
  • 2 4-5-week-old Aberdeen Angus bulls – €255 each;
  • 3 4-5-week-old Belgian Blue heifers – €230 each;
  • A 3-week-old Hereford bull – €215.
