Weanling heifers reach €6.00/kg at Elphin

A 98% clearance was recorded in the dry cow ring at Elphin Mart on Monday (September 4th) with “very good demand for good quality” entries, according to Gerry Connellan.

The mart manager reported that the average price achieved in this category was €1,364 as entries ranged in price from €840 to €1,810 for an 850 kg Charolais.

Weanlings

“96% clearance of bull weanlings with prices governed by quality.”

  • < 300 kg – The average price achieved was €724 with a maximum price of €800 for a 255 kg Charolais; 300-400  kg – The average price achieved was €910 with a maximum price of €1,190 for a 360 kg Charolais;
  • 400-500 kg – the average price achieved was €1,087 with a maximum price of €1,260 for A 450 kg Charolais;
  • >500 kg – The maximum price achieved was €1,350 for 510 kg Charolais

Heifer weanlings

“100% clearance of heifer weanlings with prices steady governed by quality.”

  • 300 kg – The average price achieved was €724 with a maximum price of €800 for a 255 kg Charolais;
  • 300-400 kg – The average price achieved was €1,098 with a maximum price of €2,400 for a 400 kg Limousin.
  • 400-500 kg – The maximum price of €800 for a 405 kg Limousin.

Sheep

An 86% clearance was recorded for lambs with prices as follows:

  • 68.5 kg – €125;
  • 53 kg – €123;
  • 46.5 kg – €118;
  • 40 kg – €100;
  • 30 kg – €91.

“83% clearance of ewes and prices ranged from €53 to €135. Breeding ewes ranged from €120 to €185.” Connellan concluded.
