‘Very good’ trade for ‘outstanding’ yard of cattle at Loughrea

Despite Storm Ellen last week, there was a “good” turnout of lambs and breeding ewes at Loughrea Mart, according to a spokesperson.

“Numbers of lambs at sales have been reported as small and this has helped to keep prices up.”

Lambs:

• 40kgs – €107.50;
• 41kgs – €96;
• 44.5kgs – €104;
• 46kgs – €105;
• 47kgs – €109;
• 48.5kgs – €112;
• 53kgs – €120.

Other categories:

• Hoggets from €150-€178;
• Cull ewes – €60-€85.

Cattle

“An outstanding yard of quality cattle saw a very good trade with almost a full clearance. A good supply of grass over the past couple of months has helped put on good weight on cattle.”
