Over 2,500 entries were presented for sale at Tullow Mart’s sheep sale on Tuesday (August 6th), according to Eric Driver – Manager.
He noted that trade remained steady for heavy lambs, while stores were easier by €1-€2/head.
Lambs over 47kg sold from €98-€110, while lighter stores from 26kg pushed from €68-€82. Forward type-stores from 38 kg-44 kg ranged from €84- €96.
Feeding-type cast ewes fetched from €15 to €20 with the kg; up to €154 was forked out for heavy ewes; however, the majority fell between the €125 and €140 bracket. “A very lively trade in the brood ring for the hogget ewes.” Driver outlined.
The lighter-type hoggets clicked from €150-€195; the majority of the stronger-types recorded prices from €180 and €190.
Two dispersal sales were held on Tuesday – the first of which included an entry of 140 Suffolk-cross ewes.
2-year-olds made from €160-€178, while 3 and 4-year-olds traded at €140-€165; some older full and broken mouth ewes changed hands at €120-€145.
The second dispersal sale saw younger ewes range from €150-€175, while older types topped out at €160.
