Over 300 weanlings were on offer at Tullow Mart on Saturday, November 2nd, according to Eric Driver – manager.
“Trade held steady for quality calves with a lot of farmer custom around the ring and also exporters present.”
Bulls over 400kg sold from €2.00-€2.40/kg, while some exceptional lots pushed up to €2.60-€2.70/kg; two E and U grade-types climbed to €3.00/kg.
Bulls under 400kg made from €2.20/kg upwards with a “very noticeable demand” for Charolais and Limousin-type entries in the 270kg-340kg weight bracket.
Heifers over 400kg ranged from €2.00/kg; some Angus-types went under the hammer from €1.90-€2.75/kg.
Lighter heifers made from €2.10-€2.30/kg. “Plenty of farmer custom for these types.” Driver concluded.
