With over 1,000 hoggets on offer at Tullow Mart on Tuesday (March 26th), trade resembled something similar to the last number of weeks, according to Eric Driver – Manager.
Heavier hoggets over 54kg sold from €124 up to a tops of €130; the majority went under the hammer from €125 and €127.
There was a sluggish trade for heavier-type hoggets, according to the manager, while fleshed hoggets between 48kg and 54kg met with a livelier trade. They ranged from €120 up to €126; the majority made between €122 and €125.
Light store hoggets fetched from a base of €80 upwards with some of the well-presented ewes and weathers - weighing 37kg to 42kg - selling from the mid €90’s up to €105.
Some entries weighing 40-47kgs pushed from €110 up to €116.
Cast ewes made from €15 to €20 with the kg while some younger fitter ewes topped out at €30 with the kg while heavier ewes peaked at €138.
Ewes and Lambs
In the brood ring, singles with lambs at foot made from €120 up to €185 for younger ewes. 2-year-old ewes with twin lambs at foot reached €245.
An 80-in-lamb ewe flock was dispersed on Tuesday; lambing in April and carrying approximately 2 lambs, they ranged from €160-€170 – a full clearance was recorded.
