‘Grass cattle’ improved by €20-€30/head, in some instances, at Tullow Mart on Friday (April 12th), according to Eric Driver.

Just over 700 head of cattle passed through the ring; trade remained strong and steady – similar to previous weeks - the manager added.

Bullocks

Beef and forward-type bullocks sold from €600 up to €1050 with the kg – SI - 800kg -€1840.

Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus stores made from €1.90 to €2.05 per kg, while continentals pushed from €2.10-€2.70/kg.

Lighter-type FR bullocks fetched from €1.75 to €1.90/kg; heavier FR ranged from €1.60 up to €1.80/kg.

Heifers

Beef and forward-type heifers made from €550 with the kg for the plainer Aberdeen-Angus-types up to €920 with the kg.

Continental store heifers - 400-450kgs - went under the hammer from €2 up to 2.90/kg.
Export-quality bull weanlings climbed from €2.75 to €3/kg, R grade-type bulls making from €2.20-€2.40 /kg; Aberdeen-Angus-types sold from €1.80 to €2.10/kg.

Cull Cows

FR cows made from €100 to €350 with the kg, while older feeding-types pushing from €150; some of the heavier-type beef cows topped out at €600 with the kg.

Calves

Over 150 lots went under the hammer in this ring, with trade similar to previous weeks, the manager said.

FR calves were acquired by exporters for €30 to €70, while stronger-types peaked at €120 and reared-type hit €230.

Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus heifer calves sold from €80 to €200 while Hereford and Aberdeen-Angus bulls varied from €120 to €240.

Continental heifers sold from €120 for the black Limousin-types up to €280 for some BBX entries; continental bulls pushed from €200 up to €420.
