Trade stronger at Ennis as buyers ‘anxious’ to secure cattle

Over 1,100 animals were on offer in a sale that was operated under tight social distancing protocol in Ennis Mart on Tuesday (March 24th), according to a spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that overall trade was positive, and stronger than the week previous, as buyers were anxious to source stock. Calves met a strong trade, with mostly Hereford and continental breeds available. Pairs in the suckler ring made up to €1,780.

Weanling bulls:

  • 1 LM – 375kgs – €1,090 – €2.90/kg;
  • 1 CHX – 325kgs – €1,040 – €3.20/kg;
  • 1 CH – 360kgs – €1,085 – €3.01/kg;
  • 1 CH – 420kgs – €1,120 – €2.67/kg;
  • 1 CH – 260kgs – €790 – €3.04/kg;
  • 3 LMX – 350kgs – €1,000 – €2.86/kg;
  • 2 LMX – 355kgs – €1,075 – €3.03/kg;
  • 1 CH – 420kgs – €1,080 – €2.57/kg.

Weanling heifers:

  • 1 LM – 260kgs – €875 – €3.36/kg;
  • 1 LM – 415kgs – €1,250 – €3.01/kg;
  • 1 LM – 285kgs – €800 – €2.81/kg;
  • 1 LM – 340kgs – €1,015 – €2.98/kg;
  • 1 LMX – 390kgs – €1,080 – €2.77/kg;
  • 1 LM – 405kgs – €1,015 – €2.59/kg;
  • 1 CH – 430kgs – €1,085 – €2.52/kg;
  • 1 CH – 255kgs – €790 – €3.10/kg.

Sheep:

The spokesperson noted that hoggets met a tougher trade; they generally made €115 to €125 with a few exceptional lots making up to €147. Cull ewes ranged from €55-€125.
